“The fact that I have been a makeup artist for over 17 years astonishes me. This is the last thing I would have ever thought to do for a living, but life can be full of beautiful surprises.”
In 1997 Lazarus’ hand caught the eye of makeup manufacturer, Philippe Privé. Lazarus went on to collaborate with Privé as the co-designer of the Philippe Privé cosmetic line. The avant-garde makeup collection launched at Saks Fifth Avenue – NYC in September ’99 and opened at Takashimaya the following year. In 2005 Lazarus was personally selected by fashion icon Iman to be a contributor to her top selling book “The Beauty of Color. The Ultimate Beauty Guide For Skin of Color”.
On March 1, 2011 Lazarus was featured as an on camera commentator for The Sundance Channel’s Original documentary on the cosmetic industry called “Love Lust & Makeup”. He and Bobbi Brown were the only two working makeup artists featured. The Makeup Man is a product consultant. Lazarus has worked closely with Defile, a cosmetic brand that was sold at Henry Bendel NYC; and Le Métier de Beauté, a posh cosmetic line sold exclusively at Neiman Marcus and Bergdorf Goodman. Lazarus is also a contributor to ‘O’ Magazine, has been a guest beauty editor for Jewel and can be found designing the faces of models, singers, actresses and private clients. When asked to elaborate on the source of his inspiration, he replies:
“My muse is the woman sitting across from me. By virtue of being a woman my client inspires me… whether she’s demure, stunning, sensual, playful or audacious, it is her uniquely feminine qualities I unveil.”
